Kolkata: Fearing the surge of BJP in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee offers to give up the Chief Ministership to continue as the party president of Trinamool Congress. She believes that only her presence as party chief could stem the tide of BJP.
In a swift move, Mamata Banerjee also stripped her nephew Abhishek Banerjee’s control of all those districts which were under his leadership. This follows because of his failure to stop the BJP steamroller from capturing the seats Purulia and Jhargam that were under Abhishek Banerjee’s watch.
The Chief Minister of West Bengal also deflected the reason of the party’s dismal performance from her authoritarian, undemocratic, and communal leadership. She blamed the Election Commissioner for helping the BJP win in 16 more seats than it had gained in 2014.
Mamata also accused the Central forces for working against TMC. She said that a Hindu-Muslim divide was created and the Election Commissioner did not do anything about it.
During the election campaign the BJP suffered many hardships at the hands of TMC. The BJP Party President Amit Shah’s convoy was attacked during a road show in Kolkata which led to clashes between BJP workers and TMC goons.
Amit Shah had revealed that around 80 BJP workers were killed by Mamata Banerjee’s TMC in West Bengal.
