Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh police constituted a SIT to investigate into the kidnapping and murder of a two year old child, Twinkle Sharma,  in Aligarh. The police have already arrested two persons Zahid and Aslam over the murder.

ADG (Law and Order), Anand Kumar said, “An SIT has been formed under the Superintendent of Police, Rural Area. A forensic science team, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and a team of experts have been included in the SIT to conduct the investigation on a fast-track basis. The POCSO Act will also be there in the case.”

The body of Twinkle was found in a garbage dump on Sunday.

The child was missing since 30 May and the family had complained of her absence the next day at the Police station. However, the family members accuse the police of negligence. The SHO of the station has been suspended by the authorities on the basis of the family members complaint.

The police say that Twinkle Sharma was kidnapped by Zahid and Aslam and murdered brutally because her father had asked them to return an amount of money that they had borrowed from Twinkle’s father.

Postmortem reports say that the child was tortured and then strangulated before being thrown in a garbage dump. The postmortem report says that the child’s ribs were all broken after she was hit repeatedly on the chest. Her right arms were chopped off and her head sustained heavy injuries. Even the bones of her right legs were broken.

The horrific incident was highlighted through the social media while main stream media did not give much importance to the case. The social media campaign has helped put the pressure on the police who moved quickly to arrest two of the accused.
