NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar mentioned that the e-visa services for Canadian citizens have resumed after a prolonged two-month pause starting from yesterday, November 22nd. Minister Jaishankar highlighted that the Bharath-Canada diplomatic crisis was a ‘logical consequence’ and due to the relative improvement in the situation, Bharath can gradually restart visa services for Canadian citizens.
Jaishankar highlighted the improved diplomatic relations between Bharat and Canada, leading to the Bharath government resuming e-visa services for Canadian citizens. Calling it a ‘logical consequence,’ Jaishankar made these remarks while addressing the press after the G20 Summit.
Earlier, on September 21, the High Commission of India in Ottawa, Canada suspended visa services for Canadian nationals due to a temporary diplomatic crisis between the two countries. However, considering the improved situation in Canada, the E-Visa facility has been resumed for Canadian citizens starting from November 22, 2023. Previously, tourist, business, and medical visa facilities had also resumed.
The resumption of visa services for all categories was announced just hours before Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s participation in the Virtual G20 Leaders’ Summit.
Visa issuance had been suspended on September 21 following a diplomatic crisis triggered by Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s unsubstantiated allegations linking Bharat to the killing of pro-Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, British Columbia.
