Srinagar: Five CRPF soldiers were martyred when two suicide Islamic terrorists opened fire at security vehicles in the center of Anantnag town in Jammu and Kashmir in the evening. One police officer is also injured by the gunfire and his state is said to be critical. Indian security forces are engaging with the militants and so far one terrorist has been neutralized.
The encounter began when two terrorists belonging to the banned Al-Umar Mujahideen opened fire at a security vehicle at the Anantnag bus stand.
Unfortunately, reports say that atleast eight persons have been injured in the crossfire as the security personnel retaliated against the terrorists. The injured also include one Police Station Officer, six CRPF soldiers and one civilian. Military and other security personnel were rushed to the spot once the attack began.
One of the terrorists is killed while the attempt to flush out the other attacker holed up in a nearby building is underway. Sources say that the gun battle might continue.
Al-Umar Mujahideen, a dormant terror outfit, has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
