Ahmedabad: Around three lakh people from five hundred coastal villagers evacuated and shifted to safer areas as the severe cyclone ‘Vayu’ is expected its landfall over Sourashtra coast this afternoon.
Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert on Vayu’s landfall and predicted to hit the coast between Dwaraka and Porbandar by 3pm.
The deadly storm will remain for four days and will become very severe on June 15.Ten columns of Army have been deployed and 24 columns have been put on standby. IAF and the Indian Coast Guard has deployed aircraft and ships for rescue operations.
“Praying for the safety and wellbeing of all those affected by Cyclone Vayu. The government and local agencies are providing real-time information, which I urge those in affected areas to closely follow”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
