Patna: In the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Nehru’s portrait was replaced with Baba Sahib Ambedkar’s portrait. Dr. Ambedkar’s image was installed above the Assembly Speaker’s seat, positioned to the left of Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait. Congress protested against putting up Ambedkar’s portrait and threatened to put up picture of Congress MLAs if the decision wasn’t reversed.
The newly elected MLAs took their oaths on Monday in the Legislative Assembly. The BJP-led cabinet, under Mohan Yadav, was sworn in on the 13th. BJP secured 163 seats out of 230 in the assembly. Pro-tem Speaker Gopal Bhargava administered the oath to the newly elected members. The assembly convened for a four-day winter session.
Umang Singhar from Congress serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly. BJP nominated senior leader and former Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar for the post of Assembly Speaker.
