New Delhi: U S Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo will reach India tonight for a three day visit. Secretary’s visit is the first engagement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after Modi’s re- election.
Mike Pompeo will have discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday.
Pompeo’s visit will provide “an important opportunity for both sides to explore further ways to strengthen India-US strategic partnership”, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar told.
Pompeo had talked to Jaishankar on 20 June to congratulate for his victory as External Affairs Minister. Pompeo had clearly mentioned about advancing the strategic partnership between India and U S.
“Secretary Pompeo and Minister Jaishankar also discussed shared US and Indian objectives in safeguarding a free and open Indo-Pacific, US-India security cooperation and the US-India economic partnership,” a spokesperson of the US State Department, Morgan Ortagus, said in a statement.
