NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences on the passing of Tamil actor and political leader Vijayakanth. Modi extended his condolences through X (formerly known as Twitter).
The PM noted that Vijayakanth’s demise is a significant loss to the Tamil cinema industry and politics. As a political leader, Vijayakanth dedicated his life to public service.
Modi also mentioned that Vijayakanth was a close friend of his, recalling their interactions over the years.

Vijayakanth passed away today morning in Chennai. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai after being diagnosed with COVID. Vijayakanth served as the leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly from 2011 to 2016.
His passing was mourned by many in the political and film industries.
