New Delhi: The ‘One Nation, One Election’ (ONOE) panel, led by former President Ram Nath Kovind, has witnessed a huge response from the public. The panel received 5,000 suggestions within the last 10 days. The panel, appointed by the central government in September 2023, will continue to accept proposals until January 15.
The eight-member committee, formed to study the ‘One Nation, One Election’ concept, aims to explore the feasibility of holding simultaneous elections for the House of the People (Lok Sabha), state legislative assemblies, municipalities, and panchayats.
Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, 15th Finance Commission chairman Nand Kishore Singh, former Lok Sabha secretary-general Subhash C Kashyap, senior advocate Harish Salve, and former Chief Vigilance Commissioner Sanjay Kothari are the other members of the committee.
