New Delhi: A high-level team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will head to Britain to arrest criminals, including Vijay Mallya, who has been absconding from Bharath after looting crores of money.
The team, comprising members from the CBI, Enforcement Directorate, and National Investigation Agency, is set to accelerate the arrest processes for Bharath’s most wanted absconders. This list includes Vijay Mallya, arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari, and diamond trader Nirav Modi. Efforts are underway to identify their properties in the UK and other countries to take possession of the ‘proceeds of crime.’
It has been reported that the team is headed by a senior officer from the Ministry of External Affairs. Meetings have been scheduled by the Indian High Commission in London with UK authorities to seek pending information on assets acquired by the fugitives in London, along with details of their banking and financial transactions.
Sanjay Bhandari, an arms dealer who fled in 2016 soon after Income Tax department and ED initiated investigations into multiple defence deals and money laundering during the UPA regime. Sanjay Bhandari close aide to Robert Vadra, the husband of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi. According to the ED, Sanjay Bhandari had acquired properties in London and Dubai, transferring them to shell companies controlled by Robert Vadra.
The ED has already attached the properties of Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya in India, and money has also been realized by selling their assets and returned to banks against their outstanding debts.
