Ayodhya case: SC to hear Ram Janmabhoomi land dispute on Thursday

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear the Ram Janmabhoomi land dispute case on Thursday after petition was filed for early hearing citing that there was no progress in the mediation. The matter will be heard by a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi.

The petition for early hearing was filed by Gopal Singh Visharad, who is one of the original plaintiffs. The petition mentions that the mediation, ordered by the apex court on 8 March to find an amicable solution, has not made any progress.

The senior lawyer, P. S. Narsimha, appearing for Gopal Singh Visharad, said that nothing much has been happening in the case.

The court had ordered setting up of a panel of three eminent personalities to discuss with the all the affected parties to reach an out of court settlement. The panel constituted of former Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Fakkir Mohammad Ibrahim Kalifulla, Art of Living Acharya Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and senior advocate, Sriramu Panchu.

On 10 May, the apex court gave the panel time till 15 August to reach a consensus with every parties. The court had also ordered that the meetings must be done with utmost confidentiality to ensure that there is a chance for success. Media was not allowed in to make sure that no news about the actual deliberations reach the public.

Gopal Singh Visharad requested the Supreme Court an early hearing of the appeals against the verdict of Allahabad High Court in 2010, which ordered the disputed land in a 2:1 ration between Hindu and Muslim parties.
