New Delhi: India’s dream to send astronauts into space will get a boost after Russia promised to assist in the Human Space Flight Program ‘Gaganyaan’, which seeks to send astronauts to space in 2022.
A meeting was held in Hyderabad House in New Delhi today between National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, and Director General of ROSCOSMOS and former Deputy Prime Minister, Dmitry Rogozin where the space corporation between the two nations was discussed in details.
ROSCOSMOS is the space agency of the Russian Federation.
The two countries discussed cooperation in futuristic technologies including new space systems, rocket engines, propellants and propulsion systems, spacecraft and launch vehicle technology.
The Russian side also said that they would like to see India become part of the International Space Station (ISS). The space station is a habitable artificial satellite where astronauts can live and work. Experiments which require low gravity and space environment are conducted at the ISS. It is jointly owned by the US, Russia, Japan, the European Space Agency, and Canada.
India’s capabilities in outer space are growing rapidly and Russia wants India as a partner for promoting peaceful uses of outer space.
