Jaipur: Hijab may be banned in educational institutions in Rajasthan. It is reported that Education Minister Madan Dilawar has sought a report from the Education Department regarding the status of hijab ban in other states and its effects in Rajasthan.
After studying the patterns of other states, a status report on the possibilities of hijab ban will be prepared at a high level in the Education Department and sent to the Education Minister.
It is reported that after getting approval from higher ups, a final decision on banning the hijab will be taken in the schools of Rajasthan.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena has also recommended a ban on hijab and burqa in government and private schools and madrasas. He said that there are many Muslim countries that have banned hijab. He asks why it is necessary to wear hijab in India. Burqa and hijab should be banned here like in other countries. The cabinet minister also said that there should be a uniform dress code in all schools.
On December 31, 2021, a controversy arose in a college in Udupi District of Karnataka over the ban on hijab. As tensions escalated, the Karnataka Government in February 2022, put a ban on all forms of clothing and items displaying religious identity in schools and colleges.
The order argued that any attire or accessory posing a potential threat to equality, integrity, and public law and order would not be permitted within educational institutions. The Karnataka High Court also supported the decision to ban hijabs in schools and colleges, agreeing that the dress code in schools and colleges was correct.
