New Delhi: Shazia Ilmi, the National spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), gave befitting reply to biased questions from an Al Jazeera anchor regarding the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. When asked if the temple was constructed by demolishing a mosque, Ilmi asserted that the mosque had been built by demolishing the temple.
Ilmi further clarified the historical context, stating,“In fact, the temple was broken by Mir Abi Bir (Mir Baqui), who was the commander-in-chief of Babur, the first Mughal emperor invader of Bharat. And a mosque was made and this temple was razed. This is why this has been a part of the national consciousness of Bharat and all its people.”
She emphasized that the Supreme Court’s verdict had paved the way for this corrective action, highlighting a centuries-old dispute dating back to the 16th century when a mosque was erected atop a mandir. Ilmi also touched upon the diverse perspectives within the Muslim community, citing Muslim writers who consider Lord Rama as a saint for Muslims.
Shazia Ilmi, formerly a media professional, transitioned to politics after leaving her initial role. Initially associated with the Aam Aadmi Party, Ilmi later joined the BJP due to dissatisfaction with the former’s working methods.
