New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan before presenting the interim Union Budget for 2024 in Lok Sabha. President Droupadi Murmu extended wishes to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who is presenting the Budget for the sixth consecutive term.
Today, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is presenting the Interim Budget 2024. Earlier, on the first day of the final session of the 17th Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed hope of presenting the full budget in July. Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in April–May 2024, the Modi Government is presenting an interim budget today.
An interim budget serves as a temporary measure, often lacking extensive policy considerations, and typically earmarks funds for crucial government operations over a brief period. The interim budget, a short-term financial plan, seeks Parliament’s nod for a grant in advance to meet the government’s essential expenditure for the first four months of the new financial year. The Interim Budget outlines expenditures and revenues until the formation of a new government, helping the government manage its financial obligations.
The Prime Minister envisions the country becoming the world’s leading economic power within the next five years. Announcements can also be expected in the interim budget to expedite progress toward this goal.
In the policy announcement speech, the President stated that the country is on the path of development, with significant matters of national interest considered in the last 10 years. The President pointed out the scrapping of Article 370, the implementation of the triple talaq as void and illegal, and the consecration of the Ayodhya Ram Temple as examples.
The budget will prioritize women and youngsters in the country. It is also expected to include several projects for the common people. Announcements can also be expected in the interim budget to boost the further implementation of popular government schemes.
