New Delhi: A bill to prevent examination malpractice has been introduced in the Lok Sabha. Union Minister Jitendra Singh has introduced a bill to impose fines and penalties for malpractices in competitive examinations.
The main objective of the bill is to prevent ‘leakage of question papers’ (unauthorized release of examination papers before the scheduled test date, providing unfair advantages to certain individuals) in various examinations including UPSC, SSC, Railways, NEET, JEE and CUET.
Malpractice in competitive examinations could result in a maximum imprisonment of 10 years. A fine of not less than one crore will also be imposed for the organised crime. If the malpractice is committed by any organisation, their assets will be confiscated.
The bill also mentions that such cases should be investigated by police officers not below the rank of Deputy Superintendent and Assistant Commissioner. The central government will also have the power to transfer the inquiry to any central agency. The bill encompasses 20 offenses including impersonation, falsification of answer sheets, falsification of documents, subversion of rank list and related offenses.
