Patna: Nitish Kumar’s government in Bihar is all set to face a trust vote following the recent formation of a new coalition government in the state. This coalition, backed by the BJP, emerged after the collapse of the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance), comprising the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], RJD, and Congress. The NDA government, formed by the JD (U)-BJP alliance, currently have the support of 128 people, a figure crucial for securing power in the 243-member assembly. The support of 122 MLAs is required to secure power in the assembly.
Ahead of the trust vote, Deputy Chief Ministers convened at the residence of JD (U) leader and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, where Kumar expressed confidence in securing the trust of the assembly.
The JD (U) holds 45 seats in the assembly, while its allies, the Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular (HAM-S), have 79 and 4 legislators, respectively. With the additional backing of an independent MLA, the NDA stands at 128 MLAs in the house against the 115 of the Mahagathbandhan.
Meanwhile, RJD MLAs are camping at the residence of former Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav in anticipation of the trust vote.
