Lucknow: The Income Tax Department (IT) today attached an alleged benami plot of land owned by BSP chief Mayawati’s brother, Anand Kumar, and his family. The plot which is 7 acres is worth Rs. 400 crore.
The seven acre plot in Noida was “beneficially owned” by Anand Kumar and his wife Vichiter Lata. Incidentally, Anand Kumar is the Vice President of BSP and was appointed by Mayawati at the national convention in a bid to extend her dynastic politics.
The provisional order for the attachment of the land came from the Delhi based Benami Prohibition Unit of the Income Tax Department.
Anand Kumar, who was earlier a clerk at Noida Authority, is also accused of opening many fake companies against which loans amounting to crores of rupees were taken. After Mayawati ascended the chief minister’s post, Anand Kumar opened as many as 49 companies. By the end of 2014, he was worth Rs. 1316 crore.
The IT and the Enforcement Directorate have been on the heels of Anand Kumar probing cases of money laundering.
The dalit leader have used politics to amass great wealth and power in the State. In the recent Lok Sabha election, Mayawati allied with her arch rival Samajwadi Party to prevent a BJP win. However, the allies were given a huge thumbs down from the people.
