Mumbai: Security agencies were quick to nab Dawood Ibrahim nephew, Rizwan, at the Mumbai airport when he was attempting to leave the country. Rizwan is the son of Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Kaskar.

This arrest is the second blow to Dawood Ibrahim in the span of a few days. Dawood’s hawala operator Ahmed Raza Wadharia was deported from Dubai which was a major win for Indian security agencies fighting Dawood Ibrahim’s international terror and crime network. Raza was operating extortion rackets in Mumbai, Thane, and Surat is also known to have close contact with Dawood’s nephew Rizwan.

Dawood’s brother Iqbal is currently languishing in jail under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). He was running an extortion racket in the state.

A senior official in the Crime Branch said, “During his interrogation, Rizwan Kaskar’s name cropped up. Based on the information, a trap was laid and he was detained at the Mumbai international airport on Wednesday night when he was trying to escape from the country.”

It is widely believed that Pakistan is harbouring India’s most wanted criminal, Dawood Ibrahim, wanted for multiple crimes including the terror attacks at Maharashtra’s financial centre. Dawood escaped the Indian security agencies before they could get to him.

He landed in Pakistan and has expanded his illegal activities with the active support of the Pakistani regime and the ISI. His D-Company has grown into the most powerful crime syndicate in the South Asia. In addition to drug smuggling, extortion, etc the D-Company has links with terrorism and supports terror activities with funds raised through illegal drug trade.

Security agencies believe that they transport drugs from opium growing areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan to other countries including India and Sri Lanka. They are believed to use land routes and sea routes for the elaborate drug trade.
