Kolkata: The visit of the six-member BJP delegation constituted by the party national president, JP Nadda to Sandeshkhali was stopped by the police in West Bengal today.
The six-member team includes party leaders Annapurna Devi, Pratima Bhowmik, Sunita Duggal, Kavita Patidar, Sangeeta Yadav and Brij Lal. BJP leader Agnimitra Paul is accompanying the delegation to Sandeshkhali. As the delegation was blocked by the police, they raised objections to the police’s conduct claiming the police had no right to stop them.
Annapurna Devi stated that they had come to meet the affected sisters and offer them assurance. She remarked that the West Bengal police were exhibiting stubbornness by preventing their visit. Devi alleged that if the police had been vigilant in apprehending Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates, they wouldn’t have had to witness these unfortunate events.
MLA Agnimitra Paul remarked that the situation clearly indicated the fearfulness of Mamata Banerjee and her government. She pointed out that Union Ministers were being denied entry, with Section 144 enforced. Despite requesting permission for only five individuals to go, they were refused. Even when they reduced the request to only two ministers, they continued to be denied access.
MLA highlighted that the police had received strict instructions to prevent the BJP’s central government delegation from entering. She accused Mamata Banerjee of being aware of the situation, emphasizing that Hindu women had been subjected to rape and that there were attempts to suppress the truth. She said that West Bengal was engulfed in turmoil.
In Sandeshkhali, women have been protesting for several days, alleging atrocities committed against them by TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh and his associates. They accused Sheikh and his ‘gang’ of forcibly capturing land and subjecting women to sexual harassment. Sheikh has been absconding since last month, following an attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team that had gone to raid his residence in connection with a ration scam.six-member
