New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister of Delhi and senior Congress leader, Sheila Dikshit, passed away today afternoon at Delhi’s Escorts Hospital, after suffering from a cardiac arrest. She was 81.
Sheila Dikshit had been Chief Minister of Delhi for a consecutive 3 times and was instrumental in building the Delhi Metro and other transport infrastructure which benefitted the national capital. She also served as Governor of Kerala but resigned after some months.
The senior Congress leader was suffering from cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heart beat). She had undergone a heart surgery last year in France.
Leaders from across the political spectrum send their condolences to the family members of the former Chief Minister. She entered politics in the early 1980s and was known as an able administrator.
The President, Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were among the top leaders who condoled her death.
