Bhopal: In a tragic incident a tribal woman was run over by a tractor and killed when she refused to give her land. Three persons are accused in the gruesome murder of the woman. The incident mirrors a similar attack in Uttar Pradesh where 10  people were shot for refusing to part with their lands.

The Additional Superintendent of Police said that three persons Lalpati, Prabhakar, and Bandhu went to Kiran Kol’s house with a tractor. Kiran Kol refused to give them the land and the trio began to plough the land forcefully.

The accused got into a scuffle with the victim and ran her over with the tractor and fled the area. Though Kiran Kol was taken to the hospital she soon succumbed to her injuries.

The police have registered a case and investigations are only going on.

Land mafia is a strong force in many parts of the country and use violence and threats to evict poor people from their land. They grab the lands at rock bottom rates or for free and make a profit.

Last day, the SP leader Azam Khan was declared by the Yogi government of being a land mafia and his name was listed on the government portal. Only such strong actions could rein in the menace of land mafia that hurts the poor and vulnerable section of the people the most.
