Sriharikotta: Chandrayaan 2, India’s dream project, will be launched at 2.43 pm today from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikotta. India has been anxiously waiting to witness this special moment from last Monday.

Chandrayyan 2 was planned to launch on last Monday, but postponed its schedule just an hour before the launch, due to some technical snag.Though the launch is postponed, Chandrayaan 2 will reach the moon at the pre scheduled date, that is, on september 7. Chandrayyan 2 will revolve the earth for 23 days and then will take 8 days to touch the moon.

Chandrayaan 2 has three modueles, Orbitor, Lander and Rover. To commemorate the contributions of Vikram Sarabhai, Lander is named Vikram and Rover, Pragyaan.

The 1000 crore project will ‘soft land’ in the moon, which is the first ever venture of India and the nation is the fourth country to use soft landing after United States, Russia and China. Chandrayaan 2, the most complicated mission of ISRO, will land in the lunar south pole, the first ever landing there as moon’s south pole has never been explored from the ground.
