New Delhi: Supreme Court Justice Sikri started reading out the verdict on constitutional validity of Aadhaar as ” There is a fundamental difference between Aadhaar and other identity proof as Aadhaar cannot be duplicated and it is a unique identification”.
The verdict says that Aadhaar empowers individuals on the margins of society and provides dignity. The majority judgement pronounced the card is constitutionally valid but with conditions.
Aadhaar should be linked with PAN for filing returns.The court said Aadhaar is unique. It is not compulsory for school admissions. Aadhaar linking with phones is also not compulsory.
.Aadhaar verdict was delivered by Justices Deepak Misra, Ashok Bhushan, Dhananjaya Y Chandracud, A K Sikri, A M Khanwilkar. Hearing of the case lasted for 38 days
