Jaipur: In a big blow to the Congress, former Rajasthan Cabinet Minister and prominent Congress tribal leader Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Rajasthan BJP president CP Joshi warmly welcomed Malviya into the BJP. Malviya’s decision to join the BJP came following meetings with Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.
During a press conference, CP Joshi emphasised Malviya’s decision, stating, “Today, a prominent leader from the tribal region, Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya, is joining the BJP. Influenced by the policies and leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he has chosen to become a member of the BJP.”
Malviya, in his statement, expressed disappointment with the Congress party, criticising its internal functioning and deviation from its original vision. He cited the leadership and developmental work under PM Modi as key factors influencing his decision to switch parties.
Currently representing the Bagidora Assembly seat in Banswara district, Malviya’s move holds significance in the political landscape of southern Rajasthan, where the BJP has considerable support.
