New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) units spread across 11 states in the country in an event in Delhi. This initiative is part of the government’s flagship – ‘World’s Largest Grain Storage Plan’ in the cooperative sector.
In addition to the inauguration of these godowns, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for 500 additional PACS across the nation for the construction of godowns and other agricultural infrastructure. PACS have been built in 11 states in the first phase with the idea of implementing the world’s largest grain storage scheme in the cooperative sector . Prime Minister also inaugurated a project for computerization (ERP software) of 18,000 PACS units. ERP/ Unified Enterprise Resource Planning is the national software.
PACS units will be linked with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) through the State Cooperative Bank and the District Central Cooperative Bank. This will increase the efficiency of PACS units and benefit the common and small farmers.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his assistance in mobilising investments to strengthen PACS units. He added that the central government has provided Rs 2,500 crore for PACS centres.
