Hyderabad: A huge number of Muslim women and girls joined the BJP after they got inspired by the progressive stand taken by the Modi government against the evil practice of Triple Talaq.

The women from the minority community took BJP membership at various places in Hyderabad during the BJP membership drive.

BJP leader, Bandaru Dattatreya said, “In Hyderabad, BJP is conducting membership drive in Dabeerpura and Yakutpura areas, wherein hundreds of Muslim girls and women participated and took party’s membership. Even B. Tech graduates from the Muslim community have taken membership.”

He told that the Muslim women were inspired by the Modi government’s stand against Triple Talaq and also were impressed by other schemes brought by Narendra Modi. Some women liked the Beti Padhao Beti Bachao scheme and others were attracted to the saffron party because of the skill development centre for Muslims set up by the Central government.

Bandaru Dattatreya said that though All India Majlis-e-ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party tried to dissuade women from getting close to BJP by instilling fear among them, the BJP was able to convince them about the schemes of the Central government and the party’s vision. This helped the women to join the BJP and keep away from the AIMIM who were misleading the Muslims.

Incidentally, the Union Law Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, will introduce the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill , which will criminalize Triple Talaq, tomorrow in the Lok Sabha.

This is the first time the Bill will be introduced in the 17th Lok Sabha. The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha last year in December during the previous government. However, it got rejected in the Rajya Sabha, where the BJP do not yet have a majority.

The current bill will replace an ordinance for the same which was issued by the Cabinet in February last year.
