New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, has demanded that the Samajwadi Party leader, Azam Khan, must apologize unconditionally in the House. Azam Khan had made sexist remarks against BJP MP Rama Devi during the debate on Triple Talaq bill. His comments were condemned from MPs cutting across party lines.
In an all party meet, the MPs from different political parties demanded an apology from Azam Khan today. He had insulted Rama Devi while she was presided the House in the absence of the Speaker.
The Speakers office will send notice to Azam Khan and inform him about the decision of the all party meet. Azam Khan is summoned to the House on Monday to tender his apology. If he fails to apologize, then the Speaker has the right to take disciplinary actions against him.
The Speaker might suspend him for the session of the Parliament and probably the next if Azam Khan refuses to apologize. Samajwadi Party members did not attend the all party meet to discuss about the sexist remarks of Azam Khan.
Azam Khan’s foul language and sexist comments have come under severe criticism earlier also. He is seen as a habitual offender when it comes to using inappropriate language.
His remarks against Jaya Pradha, when she joined the BJP after abandoning SP, were also condemned widely. However, his party colleagues in SP are in support of him. Even Akhilesh Yadav laughed it off and defended Khan’s statement exposing the poor culture and discipline of the Samajwadi Party.
