New Delhi: Upholding the national vision of “women empowerment” and showcasing “Nari Shakti,” the Indian Army is set to establish two Army Girls Sports Companies (AGSC) in a phased manner. These groundbreaking initiatives will be located at two Army Centers of Excellence: the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, and the Army Sports Institute (ASI) in Pune. Anticipated to commence full operations by April 2024, the AGSCs aim to revolutionize the landscape of women’s sports in India.
The primary objective of these companies is to provide comprehensive training in disciplines such as Shooting, Archery, Athletics, Boxing, and Weightlifting to girls from all corners of the nation. By identifying and nurturing potential champions, the Army aims to contribute significantly to the advancement of women in sports.
The chosen locations boast state-of-the-art training infrastructure, including sports medicine centers, rehabilitation facilities, and top-notch coaching facilities, ensuring a conducive environment for the development of young athletes.
The selection trials for the inaugural batch of the Girls Sports Company at AMU will be held from March 20 to 23. Eligible candidates, girls aged between 12 and 16 as of April 1, 2024, and who have completed fifth grade, can register online until March 10. Selected athletes will receive free education up to the Matriculation level, along with complimentary boarding and lodging, empowering them to pursue their sporting dreams without financial constraints.
