Dehradun: In a significant blow to the Congress party, Manish Khanduri, son of BJP stalwart and former Uttarakhand chief minister Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just a day after parting ways with his former party.
Manish Khanduri formally joined the BJP at its headquarters, in the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, state BJP president Mahendra Bhatt, and Uttarakhand party in-charge Dushyant Gautam.
Having resigned from the primary membership of the Congress on Friday, Manish Khanduri emphasized that his decision to join the BJP was not motivated by personal gain or status. Manish Khanduri had contested as the Congress candidate from the Pauri Constituency of Uttarakhand in the Lok Sabha elections. Manish Khanduri is the brother of Ritu Khanduri, a member of the Uttarakhand legislative assembly.
With the Lok Sabha elections approaching, the departure of members from Congress to BJP poses a significant challenge for the party.
