New Delhi: Following the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 13 Pakistani Hindus were granted Indian citizenship. Hailing from families residing in Morbi, Gujarat, these individuals were officially conferred citizenship in a ceremony graced by MLA Kantilal Amrutiya. Having resided in Morbi for over two decades, their journey to citizenship marks a significant step towards securing their future.
Fleeing persecution in Pakistan, many of them sought refuge in India for a better quality of life. Despite years of residence in India, they previously lacked the legal status of Indian citizenship. However, with the implementation of CAA, they express gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for facilitating their citizenship acquisition.
The implementation of CAA comes as part of the government’s initiative to extend Indian citizenship to persecuted religious minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
