New Delhi: The high-level committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind submitted its report on ‘One Nation, One Election’ today to President Droupadi Murmu.

Former President Ram Nath Kovind presented the report to President Droupadi Murmu, outlining the proposal for conducting Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly Elections simultaneously. The report, consisting of 18,626 pages, was submitted in the presence of Union Home Minister and Committee Member Amit Shah.

According to national media reports, the Committee has proposed conducting Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections simultaneously in the first phase and conducting elections for local bodies within 100 days as the second phase.

The panel may recommend amending at least five articles of the Constitution to enable holding simultaneous polls. The report is likely to focus on having a singular electoral roll for holding Lok Sabha, state Assembly, and local body elections.

The report has been submitted after 191 days since the committee’s formation. The government appointed the high-level committee, headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind, last September to submit a report on ‘One Nation, One Election’.

Ram Nath Kovind has already appealed to all political parties to support the concept of ‘One Nation, One Election’.
