New Delhi: RSS Sarsangchalak, Mohan Bhagwat, has warned that there were plans  to tarnish the image of Hinduism in the name of mob lynching and cows. He gave his statement while addressing an RSS event.

Mohan Bhagwat’s statement comes after 49 celebrities shot an open letter to the Prime Minister calling for an end to mob lynching and asked the perpetrators be punished. They also said that the chant ‘Jai Sree Ram’ has become a war cry. They pointed out that the mob lynching were against minorities and Dalits thus giving a religious color to the law and order problem.

The letter was signed by celebrities like Aparna Sen, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, etc.

With their letter they were able to picture Hinduism in a poor light. They also said that 254 religious identity-based crimes occurred in a span of around ten years.

However, in retaliation 62 celebrities like Kangana Ranaut and Prasoon Joshi penned a counter letter exposing the selective outrage and false narratives of those behind the letter condemning mob lynching.

The 62 celebrities wrote that the 49 celebrities who wrote the letter to Narendra Modi was dishonest and opportunistic. They said that the people under  Modi have maximum liberty to differ and criticize the government.

They also asked the 49 celebrities to give up being selective and condemn lynching, discrimination and desecration of religious places with equal vehemence when they occur.

They added that the letter of the 49 celebrities are attempting to create fear and trying to destroy the collective feeling. It had also defamed the nation.

Interestingly, last year, Mohan Bhagwat, has specifically said that Hindutva means inclusivity and accepting Muslims is a part of it.
