Central government extends ban on Yasin Malik’s JKLF terror group

New Delhi: The Central government has extended the ban on the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) outfit, led by jailed Kashmiri separatist Yasin Malik, for an additional five years. The Home Ministry made the announcement, affirming that the JKLF will remain a banned organization for the next five years.

The Home Ministry stated that the banned outfit persists in engaging in activities that fuel terrorism and secessionism in Jammu and Kashmir. It added that any organization involved in activities challenging the national security, sovereignty, and integrity of the country will face strict legal action.

Previously, the JKLF was declared an ‘unlawful association’ under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in March 2019. Prior to this, the central government had also banned Jamaat-e-Islami.

Yasin Malik, currently serving a life sentence in a terror funding case, was convicted in May 2022 for various illegal activities aimed at funding separatist and terrorist actions in Jammu and Kashmir.
