Rahul Gandhi summoned to appear in Court in person on March 27; setback for Congress party ahead of elections

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been summoned to appear in Court in connection with a defamation case. The MP-MLA Special Court in Chaibasa, Jharkhand has instructed Rahul to appear in person on March 27th regarding the defamation case.

The court has summoned Rahul in response to a case filed by BJP leader Pratap Katiyar. This case stems from Rahul’s remark in 2018 that ‘any murderer can now become the BJP president’.

In April 2022, Rahul was asked to appear in connection with the defamation case, but he did not do so. Last month, Rahul requested an exemption from appearing in person and instead made a request to appear via video conference (online mode), but the court rejected his application and required him to appear physically.

Now, the court has sent a notice to Rahul, requiring him to appear in person. With election dates drawing near, the court’s legal action could be a setback for the Congress and its alliance.
