New Delhi: In the upcoming Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union elections, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP), has announced its candidates and is campaigning vigorously for domination in the left bastion.
Among the candidates announced by ABVP is their Presidential candidate, Umesh Chandra, a resident of Warangal, Telangana, who lost his father, Sitaraman Nayak Ajmeera, after he was gunned down by Naxalites in 1997. Umesh was only four years old when the communist terrorists killed his father.
Umesh Chandra’s mother was then forcibly converted after her husband’s murder. Traumatized by her husband’s loss and forced conversion, Umesh’s mother Sammakka Ajmeera passed away soon.
Even under these conditions, Umesh didn’t back down and scaled to JNU from his Naxalite infested village. His primary education was from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and when he reached JNU, ABVP was ready to welcome him. ABVP didn’t just make Umesh the President of ABVP’s JNU unit but also announced him as their Presidential candidate in their central council for JNU Students’ Union election 2024. ABVP Central Panel’s candidates represent every facet of society with Umesh himself coming from Adivasi Banjara (ST) background.
It is to be noted that ABVP has been relentlessly trying to bring justice to the victims of Naxalite violence and by making Umesh Chandra Ajmeera the Presidential candidate, it sends a positive message to the society.
ABVP Central Panel’s Presidential candidate Umesh Chandra Ajmeera said, “My father was a victim of the Naxalite attacks when I was still a child and my mother was forced to abandon her religion. She died within a few days unable to cope up with the trauma. I came in contact with ABVP when I joined JNU for higher education. They welcomed me and made me their own. Moreover when the JNU Students’ Union election notification arrived, they announced me as their Presidential candidate in their Central Panel. I strive to meet the expectations of ABVP in all the ways possible and am taking forward ABVP’s positive work to every single student of the institution.”
