Thiruvananthapuram: BJP Kerala State President K Surendran criticized the Pinarayi government for its biased approach. Surendran stated that ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Pinarayi government in Kerala directed the Police Chief to withdraw registered cases against those who protested over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Kerala. However, the government is unwilling to withdraw cases registered against the Sabarimala issue.
Surendran pointed out that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who is also in charge of the Home Department, mentioned that there is infiltration of terrorists in the CAA protests held in Kerala, and the Mahal committee should take care. Without verifying, the withdrawal of all cases seems aimed at gaining votes from the community. He questioned the basis for withdrawing cases.
He stated that the protest against the CAA was an organized agitation against the Central government’s granting of citizenship to minorities from neighboring countries who were persecuted on religious grounds. It created tensions in many parts of the country and claimed many lives.
The Sabarimala incident was a peaceful ‘Namajapa Yatra’ (peaceful mantra chanting procession) performed by believers to protect their faith. However, Kerala police filed cases against the peaceful procession, including thousands of women for mantra chanting, with several being imprisoned.
In this situation, where cases filed in connection with the Sabarimala incident remain, the withdrawal of cases against CAA protests by the Kerala government exposes Muslim favoritism, Surendran added.
Surendran also questioned the Congress for not questioning the CPI(M)’s biased decision. He accused Congress leaders in Kerala of supporting the CPI(M)’s dual stand on this issue to appease religious extremists.
Surendran stated that nothing else could be expected from Rahul Gandhi’s Congress leaders, who also make anti-Hindu remarks, referencing Rahul’s recent controversial remark on ‘Shakthi’.
