New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has alleged that Sidheeq Kappan, a journalist from Kerala and a accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), provided directives for the assassination of BJP leaders. This revelation emerged during NIA’s interrogation of Ansad Badruddin and Firoz Khan, who are associated with the Popular Front of India (PFI) and were arrested by the agency in connection with the Delhi riots and Hathras conspiracy cases. According to the testimonies of the accused, Kappan’s instructions were given during a terrorist training camp held at the Manjeri Greenvalley Academy in September 2020. Additionally, Badruddin and Khan confessed to sharing accommodations with Kappan in Delhi.
During the early days of the Delhi riots, orchestrated violence against Hindu families by PFI terrorists was rampant. It’s alleged that Kappan directed the PFI hit squad to target BJP leaders such as Kapil Mishra and Parvesh Verma, who were attempting to protect affected families.
Further investigations by the NIA revealed Kappan’s pivotal role within the PFI as a think tank member. It was also uncovered that he had conducted training sessions for PFI’s hit squad. These findings align with the Uttar Pradesh Police’s charge sheet, asserting that despite being granted bail by the Supreme Court under the concession of being a journalist, Kappan is allegedly linked to the PFI’s terror activities.
