Thiruvananthapuram: After former Congress Chief Minister K Karunakaran’s daughter Padmaja, the leader’s confidant Maheshwaran Nair has joined the BJP. Maheshwaran Nair is a former opposition leader of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and KPCC executive member. As the state is heading into the heat of the Lok Sabha elections, Maheshwaran Nair’s political shift is a big blow to the Congress leadership.
Maheshwaran Nair was accepted into the BJP in a meeting held at the office of the BJP Election Committee in Thiruvananthapuram led by Union Minister and Thiruvananthapuram NDA candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
“Thiruvananthapuram city needs a better master plan now. But the current Corporation or Government has not been able to implement it. I have been voicing for the development of Thiruvananthapuram for 20 years. But the kind of governance here does not want to bring development and changes in Kerala. Our capital city should rise according to the needs of the people and Kerala now needs a new administration for that,” said Maheshwaran Nair.
“Rajeev Chandrasekhar has a clear plan for development that goes beyond just promises made during elections,” said Maheshwaran Nair. He said that Rajeev Chandrasekhar is committed to making real changes happen and has a definite master plan to implement it. Maheshwaran Nair believes Kerala needs a new government for these changes to happen, which is why he’s chosen to join the BJP.
K Karunakaran’s daughter Padmaja Venugopal left the Congress and joined the BJP, which was a big blow to the Congress. Following her, Padmini Thomas, a long-time Congress member and sportsperson, and Thampanoor Satheesh, former general secretary of Thiruvananthapuram DCC, also left the Congress to join the BJP.
