Thiruvananthapuram: As the election campaign gains momentum in the coastal areas of Thiruvananthapuram, local residents are voicing their concerns over the issues of coastal erosion and the threat of sea attacks. The coastal residents are calling for permanent solutions from Thiruvananthapuram NDA candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar other than temporary solutions.
Locals requested Rajeev Chandrasekhar to reclaim the coasts destroyed in sea attacks. They advocate for the implementation of scientific methods to mitigate sea level rise. The assistance of the Dredging Corporation of India is sought for this purpose. People are calling on Rajeev Chandrasekhar to intervene and protect the coastal areas from Pozhiyoor to Vettukadu and Shankumugham.
In response to these concerns, Rajeev Chandrasekhar has promised his commitment to understanding and addressing the difficulties faced by coastal residents. He has assured the implementation of remedial measures and promised to secure assistance from the central government for conducting scientific studies to find a permanent solution. Rajeev Chandrasekhar ensured the coastal residents that they can sleep peacefully without fear of imminent threats.
Local residents express dissatisfaction with the lack of intervention from the Pinarayi government in this regard, stating that the government’s promises remain hollow words. They also note the absence of significant studies or proposals in the area. Hoping to find a solution, they aim to include this problem in the central government’s ‘Sagarmala Scheme’.
