New Delhi: Global weather agencies have predicted heavy rain in Kerala in coming monsoon season. Meteorological agencies suggest that El Nino, which had adversely affected Kerala’s rainfall patterns, is expected to dissipate by next month, paving the way for the arrival of the La Nina phase. This shift is likely to bring monsoon rains during the period of June to August.
El Nino and La Nina are opposite phenomena of surface warming in the equatorial Pacific Ocean. While El Nino typically results in reduced rainfall for Bharat, La Nina often leads to increased rainfall, offering hope for a bountiful monsoon season ahead.
The probability of La Nina’s occurrence stands at 62% in Kerala, as per meteorological reports. If La Nina indeed materializes, its effects are anticipated to persist until December. The Bureau of Meteorology in Australia and the Climate Prediction Center in the US have both weighed in on the forecast, indicating a positive outlook for Kerala’s monsoon season.
