Leh: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh marked the festival of colours, Holi, with soldiers stationed in Leh on Sunday. He was accompanied by the Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pande and General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps Lt Gen Rashim Bali. The minister was initially scheduled to visit the Siachen area, the world’s highest battlefield, for the celebration but couldn’t do so due to the prevailing ‘inclement weather’.
Despite the change in plans, Rajnath Singh conveyed his regards to the commanding officer deployed at Siachen over the phone, assuring them of his impending visit. Addressing the assembled jawans and senior defence personnel, he emphasized Ladakh’s significance as a bastion of bravery and valour, stating, “If Delhi is our national capital, Ladakh is a capital of bravery and valour.”
Expressing his joy at celebrating Holi with the soldiers, Rajnath Singh underscored the symbolic importance of Siachen as a testament to India’s sovereignty and resolve. He urged Army Chief Manoj Pande to initiate a new tradition by involving the Air and Navy chiefs in festivities preceding major festivals, emphasizing the importance of solidarity with frontline personnel safeguarding the nation’s borders under challenging circumstances.
