Former DGP TP Senkumar has asserted that Kerala has become a central hub for terrorism, expressing concern over the apparent indifference of political parties in the state towards this pressing issue, prioritizing electoral gains over addressing security threats. Senkumar’s remarks come in the wake of Janam TV’s report exposing the Pakistan connection to parallel telephone exchanges operating within Kerala.
Senkumar remarked that Kerala has transformed into a terrorism center in recent years. He lamented that this alarming reality seems to be of little concern to the major political parties in the state, who prioritize garnering votes over addressing the security challenges facing Kerala.
Senkumar remarked that extremism has not only taken root but also garners a significant number of votes. He pointed out the silence of parties like Congress and CPI(M), suggesting they have been influenced by extremist elements to the extent of exerting control over CPI(M). Furthermore, Senkumar noted that the actions of CPI(M) demonstrate a commitment and allegiance to a specific religious group.
He highlighted that Kerala’s intelligence system remains indifferent even when reporting incidents of terrorism. Senkumar cautioned that if this lack of control persists, Kerala could face a situation similar to that of Russia and Sri Lanka in the future.
The state government delayed transferring the investigation of parallel telephone exchange cases to the NIA. A total of 20 cases have been filed across 14 police stations in connection with these exchanges. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has determined that calls made through these parallel telephone exchangers are predominantly linked to terrorist and espionage activities. Reports indicate that Pakistani intelligence agencies are facilitating the operation of such exchanges within the country.
