Thiruvananthapuram: The state Home Department has seriously failed in the case related to the death of JS Siddharth, a student of Pookode Veterinary University in Wayanad, Kerala. The government’s negligence is evident in its failure to recommend the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Performa Report for the case to be handed over to the CBI was not forwarded to the Central Ministry of Personnel. Until the CBI receives this report, it cannot make any decisions regarding the case.
The notification that came out on March 9 was handed over to the CBI only on the 16th. The government started preparing the Performa Report only yesterday. The Performa Report must include the investigation proceedings with respective dates, along with the translation of the FIR. A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) has been assigned the responsibility of delivering the documents to the CBI headquarters in Delhi.
The state government, who kept silent on Siddharth’s death, handed over the case to the CBI following huge protests. Siddharth’s family, along with organizations like ABVP, had come forward against the government’s efforts to shield the accused SFI members. The information that has come out now indicates that despite the case being handed over to the CBI, there was a deliberate delay in forwarding it to the Centre. Siddharth’s father responded to the media today that he is doubtful of getting justice from the state government in the case.
