Ernakulam: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has identified individuals who aided Saved, the main accused in the case of Prof. TJ Joseph’s hand-cutting incident, in remaining absconded.
The investigation team revealed that, during the cyber forensic examination of Savad’s phone, they obtained information about individuals who were in constant contact with him and who prepared hideout locations for the accused.
Savad, an activist of the banned terrorist group Popular Front of India (PFI), was arrested by the NIA in this January after 13 years of the incident. He was arrested from Mattanur of Kannur district, where he was living under the false name ‘Shajahan.’ The NIA has gathered substantial evidence against the PFI for aiding the accused. Savad relied on the support of PFI leaders and communicated only with them through his phone.
The NIA is trying to gather more details about those who helped him in evading capture. It is indicated that, following the collection of evidence, more arrests will be made by the NIA.
According to police records, Prof. TJ Joseph, the former Head of the Malayalam Department at Newman College in Thodupuzha, was attacked for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad in an internal examination question paper for the B Com Second Semester examination at Newman College, Thodupuzha. On July 4, 2010, as the Professor and his family were on their way to church on a Sunday, a group of PFI members brutally cut the Professor’s right hand and stabbed him in the left leg in front of his family. Savad was the main accused who used an axe to cut Joseph’s hand, and he absconded.
