Thiruvananthapuram: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) is set to stage a protest against Transport Minister KB Ganesh Kumar, accusing him of unilaterally implementing driving test reforms. The All Kerala Driving School Workers Union, affiliated with CITU, claims that the Minister has reduced the number of daily learner’s driving tests to 30, disregarding directives from the Chief Minister.
A petition has been submitted to the Chief Minister opposing the new reform. Later, the Chief Minister suggested postponing the implementation of the test reform until after the Lok Sabha elections. However, CITU plans to hold a dharna in front of the secretariat today to denounce the Transport Minister for disregarding the Chief Minister’s instructions. The organization alleges that the Transport Department has taken impractical and unilateral measures.
CITU argues that since the government charges a fixed fee for the driving test, it is the government’s responsibility to prepare the grounds for the test. They accuse the authorities of attempting to reform the driving test without adequately preparing the grounds, which they deem illegal.
