Palakkad: As part of the Lok Sabha elections, there is rigorous checking by CRPF personnel along the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, particularly at the Malakappara check post. This checking, carried out jointly by the police and CRPF, aims to curb the inflow of illicit funds during the elections.
The surveillance at the Malakappara forest check post has been intensified following an intelligence report that money and drugs are likely to be smuggled in connection with the elections.
Leading the inspection are teams from the police, forest department, special election squad, and static surveillance team. CRPF has also been deployed to provide more security to the border area. They have indicated that border areas will remain under close scrutiny until the conclusion of the elections.
Static Surveillance Team (SST) keeps watch on movement of illicit liquor, items of bribe, or large amount of cash, arms and ammunition and also movement of antisocial elements in the area.
