Kozhikode: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan did not respond to the questions of the media on ED’s findings against CPI(M) in Karuvannur Cooperative Bank Scam. Instead, the Chief Minister shot back at the media persons stating that they have the permission to report that the CM did not reply to the questions on the Karuvannur scam.
The Chief Minister was addressing a press conference amidst his Lok Sabha poll campaign, to seek votes for LDF candidates. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan started his poll campaign on March 30 for a 24-day tour of Kerala’s 20 Lok Sabha constituencies.
The information about ED handing over the details of the ‘secret accounts’ of the CPI(M) in Karuvannur cooperative bank to the Election Commission had come out. ED had forwarded the information of these accounts, opened in violation of Co-operative Bank regulations, to the Ministry of Finance and RBI also.
According to the ED report, the secret accounts were allegedly utilized for disbursing benami loans. While ED is investigating the 150 crore fraud in Karuvannur Co-operative Bank, one of its report reveals that the five accounts opened by the CPI(M) in Karuvannur Bank were mainly used for purchasing land for the party office and gathering party funds and levies.
While addressing the media in the press conference, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan talked about the inappropriateness of Rahul Gandhi contesting from Wayanad. He said that Rahul Gandhi is going to face the Left Front in Kerala, not the BJP.
“Rahul Gandhi has an important role in the Congress party. Then why is he contesting from here? Here, LDF is the major power, and he is here to fight the Left,” said Pinarayi Vijayan.
The Chief Minister said that the I.N.D.I.A bloc was formed to fight against the BJP.
“However, a senior leader who is part of the I.N.D.I.A bloc, comes to Kerala to fight the LDF, which is also part of the alliance. What should we understand from this?” asked Pinarayi Vijayan.
