Thiruvananthapuram: Electricity consumption in the state has reached an all-time high, with 1,104.82 million units of electricity consumed yesterday (April 1) alone. On March 27th, consumption was recorded at 104.63 million units. However, yesterday’s consumption has surpassed this figure, setting a new record.
An increase in peak-time demand has also been noted, with 5,265 MW of electricity used from 6 to 11 pm yesterday. Due to this surge in consumption, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) continues to supply electricity by purchasing power from the power exchange at exorbitant prices. On most days, between 300 to 600 MW of electricity is purchased at high prices.
Meanwhile, the rise in temperature in the state shows no signs of abating. A warning has been issued in 12 districts from April 2nd to 6th.
