Attingal: Illegal construction has been reported on the national highway under cover of LDF election committee office in Attingal Lok Sabha constituency. Despite a stop memo issued by the Gram Panchayat opposing the construction, work persists on a multi-storey shopping complex at the Korani junction on the Kazhakoottam-Attingal national highway. Allegations point to the tacit support of LDF candidate V Joy, whose election committee office occupies a section of the building.
There are allegations that the unauthorized construction at Korani in Attingal has recommenced with backing from V Joy, the MLA of the ruling party and LDF candidate in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Attingal constituency. Previously, the Mudakkal Gram Panchayat had issued a stop memo to halt construction. However, with a portion of the building allotted to the ruling Left Front for their candidate’s Election Committee office, construction has resumed despite the halt.
V Joy is also the district secretary of CPI(M). So the possibility of stopping the illegal construction is close to none.
KA Saji, an expatriate who legally constructed a building near this earlier, lodged an email complaint with the Chief Minister’s office and the National Highway authorities. The Chief Minister’s office responded, stating that the complaint had been forwarded to the local department and Mudakkal Gram Panchayat.
However, doubts persist regarding any action being taken against the alleged illegal construction, which is believed to have the implicit approval of the ruling Left government.
